The Redmen
Bantam A team travelled to Niagara Falls, New York, this past weekend to
compete in the 43rd Annual Gene Harrington Tournament. Emerging from the round robin with the best
record, the team relied on precise passing, solid defense and great goaltending
in posting back-to-back shutouts from Maclaren Broad and Matt Auerbach. Leading the attack were Jacob Long, Carson
Turnbull and Cam Gunderson.
The semi-final game saw the team surrender its first goal of the tournament, but consistent play at both ends of the ice allowed the team to recover the lead and earn a spot in the final on Sunday. The final proved to be a tight-checking affair, with limited chances at both ends, and the goalies coming up with big saves when called upon. The difference came in the second period when Nick Wessinger cut hard across the front of the net and slid a puck under the opposing goalie. Once again, Mac Broad turned aside all shots in earning his second shutout of the tournament.
Congratulations to all the boys on a terrific weekend of hockey!
