Minor Atom AA - St. Catharines Early Bird Tournament Champions!!
Submitted By Krystie Robinson-Vincent on Monday, September 10, 2018
Congratulations to the Newmarket Redmen Minor Atom AA hockey team for winning the Championships at the St. Catharines Early Bird Tournament this past weekend!

Such an amazing weekend for the players and their families in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

After a bit of a slow start in Game #1 versus the Burlington Cougars, the first game the team has played together this season, the boys came together for an amazing Game #2 winning 7-1 over the Niagara Falls Flyers.

Another early morning game on Saturday ended in a loss against the first place Garden City Falcons, but the team finished the round robin in 2nd place!  The team was off to the Semi Finals and were able to focus on the next goal of making it to the Finals the next day.

The Minor Atom AA players competed hard and came together as an amazing team, passing, scoring, and defending well to help them come out on top with an exciting win beating the Niagara Falls Flyers  4-1!  This win moved the team into the Finals on Sunday afternoon against the Burlington Cougars.

In the Finals, the first period started off quickly with Burlington scoring a goal quickly, but the Redmen came right back with another goal of their own!  With only 8 seconds left in the first period, the Redmen scored a second goal to lead the team into the next period.  With several amazing shots on net by the Newmarket Redmen team and some great defense, the Redmen were able to hold off the Cougars and win the Championships with a score of 2-1!

The Coaches are all very proud of each of the players as they came together as a team this past weekend!  Enjoying Clifton Hill together with some evening go carting and views of Niagara Falls, the boys and their families really bonded over these past three days!

We cannot wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for the Newmarket Redmen Minor Atom AA players!  Congratulations Boys and best of luck this season!!
