Renegades U16BB Wins Bronze at CAN/AM in Pittsburgh
Newmarket Renegades  travelled to Pittsburgh for the MLK Weekend to compete in the CAN/AM U16BB tournament.  The Team competed hard and came out with a 2-1-1 record to win the Bronze Medal and was 1 goal away from competing in the Gold Medal Game, tremendous effort by the team over the weekend!!




In game 1 VS Single A  Hillcrest Canadiens,  Matthew Zak scored and end to end goal to give The Renegades a 1-0 lead that they took into the 3rd period.  There was a notable defensive effort by Ethan Farrar, Dean Perry, Owen Risbridger and Goaltender Matteo Hanna to keep the Canadiens at bay.  Ultimately with an empty net goal late the Renegades were unable to hold on for the win.

Game 2 saw a come back when they went down 3-0. against the Aurora Tigers  3 UN-answered  goals by the Renegades in the last half  managed to tie the game up.  Landen Forbes, Pyrs Klein and Kieran Burton dominated late to help Newmarket outshoot the Tigers 27-12 and gain a point to stay alive in the tournament. 

In game 3 Newmarket played Pittsburgh Arctic Foxes and came out from the start outworking the opponent to gain a 2-1 lead in the first period.  The Arctic Fox goaltender stood tall to repel 27 shots on net however relentless pressure by forwards Tim Huo, Brayden Gold and exceptional play by Captain Gleb Melnik helped Newmarket to a 5-1 win.

The Bronze Medal game was a close affair thanks to The Pittsburgh Goaltender as Newmarket outshot their opponent 30-10.  The Line of Thomas Cuypers, Gavin Smith and Tyler Palmer dominated while on the ice as the Renegades took a 1-0 lead into the 3rd period thanks to timely saves from goaltender Reid Achtermeier.  Sam Hinton provided stalwart puck movement and defence on the backend to keep the game close.  Late in the third period Newmarket put the game away with a clutch goal from Boog Ayre to seal the Bronze Medal!!

Matthew Zak took home tournament MVP, and special thanks to Sergey Melnik for live streaming the games for everyone back home!!!
