NMHA REP / MD TRYOUT POLICY

 

Spring Tryouts: Novice up to Minor Midget

Must be a Newmarket resident and have been registered with NMHA for the just completed season to be eligible to attend NMHA tryouts. (NRP’s excluded)


Fall Tryouts: Midget

Must be a Newmarket resident and registered online for the current season to be eligible to participate in NMHA tryouts. (NRP’s excluded)

 

If you were not registered with NMHA (exception NRP’s) for the just completed season, you must contact the NMHA office first before purchasing a tryout passport. To attend NMHA tryouts the office will determine eligibility and advise requirements that must be completed in order to register. New registrations will not be accepted at tryouts. Must be approved by the NMHA office.


Players wishing to tryout for an older age group will need written approval from the NMHA one week prior to the first tryout of the age group the player is trying out for. Deadline date to apply is no later than 3pm on Friday, April 6th, 2018 for Spring tryouts and 3PM on Tuesday August 28th, 2018, for Midget tryouts.  For further information refer to our “Rep Hockey Age Exemption Policy” in the documents section of our website.

Pursuant to OMHA Regulation 3.5 Exemption to Play in Another Centre, NMHA is open to Non-Resident Players (NRP’s) for Minor Peewee to Midget.

“MD” teams in Minor Bantam to Midget are non body checking. Players that register for “MD” go directly to Tryout #6 on the schedule.

Any player who wants to only tryout for MD in divisions Minor Bantam to Midget must purchase a tryout passport and select the appropriate “MD” team option which allows the athlete to go directly to the MD tryout. Players trying out for AA and A can elect to move directly to MD tryouts at any time (not required to attend any remaining AA or A tryouts) by notifying the coach via email.

All players are reminded to wear proper equipment per the OMHA rules. This includes, mouth guards, neck protection and goalie 'dangles' (plastic neck guards). Players not wearing appropriate protection in compliance with OMHA rules will be removed from the ice surface.

Procedure:

Novice to Minor Midget Divisions:  

This is for all players, including goalies, intending to play Representative Hockey (AA, A AE and MD). 


Tryout 1

This tryout is for players and goalies who played House League including Rostered Select or “AE/MD” (except Tyke) for the just completed season, new registrants and New NRP’s (did not play AA in Newmarket last season).  Following this tryout, every effort will be made to have results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the last tryout session. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).


Tryout 2:

This tryout is for players and goalies who played Tyke MD or “AAA” or “AA” or “A” including returning NRP’s (played AA in Newmarket last season (for the just completed season and for players and goalies invited back from the 1st tryout.  Following this tryout, every effort will be made to have results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the last tryout session. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).

 

Tryout 3:

This is the second “AA” tryout. Following this tryout, every effort will be made to have results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the last tryout session. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).

 

Exhibition Game - Final “AA” Tryout for Novice to Minor Midget

Final “AA” tryout for Novice to Minor Midget will be in the form of an exhibition game.  Shortly after posting results from the second “AA” tryout, coaches will notify the parents of the athletes participating in the exhibition game via email. Following this exhibition game, the “AA” team will be selected and every effort will be made to have final results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the exhibition game. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).  The coach will arrange a team meeting to have Offer of Commitment letters signed.

This is the first “A” tryout. Following this tryout, every effort will be made to have results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the last tryout session. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).

 

Tryout 5:

This is the second “A” tryout.  Following this tryout, every effort will be made to have results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the last tryout session. (See instructions online and handed out at tryouts on how to access the information).

 

Exhibition Game - Final “A” Tryout for Novice to Minor Midget

For Minor Atom to Minor Midget this is the second “AE” (Minor Atom to Peewee) and “MD” (Minor Bantam to Minor Midget) tryout. Following the exhibition(s) game, the “AA” team will be selected and every effort will be made to have final results posted on the NMHA website within 12 hours of the exhibition game. Notes:

 

All instructions on how to determine if your player was selected for the next tryout, released to another level or released to House League will be handed out at each tryout and are available online at (http://nmha.ca/Pages/6453/Tryout_Passport_Instructions/).

 

Players selected to a Rep/MD team will be required to sign a commitment letter confirming their selection and intent to play for the selected team for the coming season.

 

Players participating in spring tryouts who make a Rep/MD team must register online by June 30th.

 

Players participating in fall Midget tryouts must be registered online for the current season.

Definitions:

First Teams: “AA”

NMHA first teams are defined, as the most competitive teams in our Association, and as such the best players available must play for the first team in each category.


Second Teams: “A”

NMHA second teams are defined as development teams, to enable our Association to develop players for the first teams.

These teams are made up of players who:

Ø  Want to play Representative hockey and strive to get to the “AA” level.

Ø  Attend “AA” tryouts and are released and make the “A” team.

 

Third Teams: “AE”

NMHA third teams are defined as development teams, to enable our Association to develop players for our first and second teams.

These teams are made up of players who:

Ø  Want to play Representative hockey and strive to get to the “AA” and/or “A” level.

Ø  Attended “AA” and “A” tryouts and are released and make the “AE” team.

 

MD Teams (Minor Bantam to Midget)

This is a rep team with no body checking.

Development of players is the prime function of our second and third teams, and these teams must provide players through affiliation to our first “AA” and second “A” teams.
