Matt Parkinson (U12-B) (Newmarket Minor Hockey)

Matthew has been passionate about hockey since childhood, and the sport has been a constant in his life ever since he took his first steps in hockey skates. He has a deep respect for all aspects of the game and believes that a strong foundation in fundamental skills is crucial for player development. Having been involved coaching hockey for the past 5 years, Matthew is excited to work with the U12 B team this season. While Matthew believes in the value of hard work and dedication, the primary focus for the U12 B season will be on player growth and development, recognizing that players develop at different paces. He is committed to building individual skillsets, teaching effective team tactics, and fostering a competitive spirit that will help each player reach their full potential. A key emphasis will be on solid defensive play, recognizing that responsible defensive positioning and puck management are essential building blocks that blossom into scoring opportunities.

Matthew also believes strongly in building discipline, both on and off the ice, as a crucial component of player development and teamwork. To further support individual growth, Matthew will partner with skill-specific instructors and develop player-specific programs designed to build milestones and accountability so each player can see their accomplishments and grow into their game. He is also dedicated to creating opportunities for players to progress in the game through dedication and exemplary teamwork, ensuring that all players are fully supported in their development journey, no matter where they are at. His experience also includes coaching AA rep baseball in the Newmarket area, demonstrating his commitment to developing young athletes.

As coach of the U12 B team, Matthew is dedicated to creating a positive and supportive learning environment where players can develop their skills, learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, and ignite a lifelong love for the game. He believes strongly in the sense of community that comes with hockey and is looking forward to a successful and rewarding season with the team.
