Larry was born and raised in the Newmarket area playing all of his minor rep hockey for the NMHA. He started his coaching career in the 1994/1995 season coaching the NMHA Midget AA team and will be entering his 27th season of coaching. Larry has had the opportunity to coach at all levels including A, AA, AAA, Varsity and Junior. He has also volunteered his time coaching football and Special Olympics golf.
Larry believes that the foundation of a successful team lies in the principles of teamwork, mental preparation, physical fitness, discipline, and commitment. He emphasizes that hockey is not just about individual talent but about how players work together to achieve common goals. Under his guidance, athletes learn to communicate effectively, support one another, and celebrate their collective achievements.
In the last several years, Larry has focussed on the mental wellness of players embracing how the concepts of mental preparation can help players on the ice and in their own everyday lives. He regularly incorporates mental training techniques into practice, helping players develop resilience, focus, and a positive mindset. He understands that the mental aspect of the game is just as crucial as physical skills, and he teaches his players to visualize success and stay calm under pressure.
Beyond the rink, Larry is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the community. Throughout the years he has organized charity events and community outreach programs, teaching his players the importance of giving back. He believes that by instilling these values, he is not only developing skilled hockey players but also responsible and engaged citizens.
As a mentor and leader, Larry’s holistic approach to coaching ensures that his athletes grow into well-rounded individuals who understand the importance of teamwork, mental strength, physical health and community involvement."
