PrintJon Saunders (U15-A)

Jon grew up in the Ottawa Valley, where he played minor hockey at the AA and AAA levels. A few of his most memorable moments were winning the U18 AA Championship with the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings, followed by being drafted by the Hawkesbury Hawks (CCHL). He finished his playing career with the Jr. B Lions and Jr. A Grads in Ottawa.

In 2003, Jon moved to Newmarket and continued his passion for hockey as a non-parent coach in the NMHA, where he was part of the coaching staff that led the U15 team to winning both the OMHA and Silver Stick Final Championships in 2004-2005. More recently, he helped guide the U11 team to a York Simcoe Championship in 2021-2022 and then in 2022-2023 fell short in the semi-finals in the OMHA’s with the U12 Team, after a strong run and successful season. This past season, the team won the Presidents Cup after finishing a strong season.

Jon’s coaching philosophy is built on work ethic, skill development, and mentorship. He is dedicated to helping players improve their fundamental hockey skills while fostering a positive team culture that extends beyond the rink. Jon believes that success comes not only from performance on the ice but also from building character, teamwork, and strong relationships among players and their families.

Jon is always looking to expand his knowledge and skills as a coach, continuously refining his approach to help his players reach their full potential. He is excited to build on this season’s success and carry that momentum into the next, ensuring continued growth and achievement for his team in the 2025-2026 season.
