Hello and welcome to the Newmarket Renegades U12 B evaluations for the 2025/26 season. My name is Matt Parkinson and I will be the Head Coach for this upcoming season.
I've been passionate about hockey since childhood and have 5 years of coaching experience. I'm excited to lead the U12 B team this season. My focus is on creating a positive environment where players develop skills, learn teamwork and discipline, and build a strong team culture and community.
As part of our player evaluation, we will be look at players based on several key factors:
- Compete Level: Demonstrating consistent effort and intensity in all drills and game situations.
- Skill Execution: Exhibiting the necessary hockey skills to contribute effectively at the U12 B level.
- Coachability: Being receptive to instruction and feedback, and showing a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Team Mentality: Prioritizing the team's success and showing respect for teammates, coaches, and opponents.
While I believe in the value of hard work and dedication, the primary focus for the U12 B season will be on player growth and development, recognizing that players develop at different paces. Our team philosophy will center on building individual skillsets, teaching effective team tactics, and fostering a competitive spirit that will help each player reach their full potential. A key emphasis will be on solid defensive play, recognizing that responsible defensive positioning and puck management are essential building blocks that blossom into scoring opportunities.
Please refer to the NMHA website for the official schedule, including dates and times for all evaluation skates. Link to evaluation schedules here: https://nmha.ca/Tryouts/.
The evaluation process will consist of skill sessions and exhibition games.
- Evaluation Skates #1 & #2: [Traditional drills and skill testing]
- Evaluation Skates #3 & #4: [Exhibition games]
Evaluation results and lists of players invited to subsequent skates will be posted on the website. Please check the website regularly for updates.
A couple of important notes for all participants:
- All players must be registered for the NMHA evaluation process prior to stepping on the ice. Please ensure all registration requirements are met.
- Players are reminded to wear proper and complete hockey equipment as per OMHA/Hockey Canada rules. This includes mandatory equipment such as mouth guards and neck protection. Goaltenders must also wear appropriate neck/throat protection ('dangles'). Players not wearing the required protection will not be permitted on the ice.
We appreciate your interest in the Newmarket Renegades U12B team and look forward to seeing you at the rink!
All the best and see you at the rink soon!
Coach Matt
