Minor Atom Allstate Insurance HL team wins the Neil Barker Memorial Tournament!
Submitted By webmster on Mon 01 19, 15
The Allstate Insurance Newmarket Minor Atom houseleague team travelled down to London, Ontario to take part in the Neil Barker Memorial Tournament from Jan 15-18. After a closely contested 1-0 win in their first game, the team went on to win their next 2 games of the round robin and finish first overall in their respective division, putting them into the semi-finals against Oakville.  The semi-final game was an incredibly close affair with both teams trading chances and goals.

The 3rd period ended with both teams tied 2-2, so it was off to OT where Newmarket rallied to score the game winner and head off to the finals against a strong team from Kitchener.

Kitchener came out fast and opened up a 2-0 lead after 2 periods, but the boys from Newmarket dug deep and rallied in the 3rd to tie it up and yet again, take the game to overtime for the Championship. Great chances by both teams in the 5-minute sudden victory OT, but no goals to show for it, had the game go to a shootout to determine the winner.  5 shooters were selected by both teams and after Newmarket’s first 3 shots found the back of the net, Newmarket goalie Vann Kulba shutdown the 3 Kitchener shooters to secure the Championship victory for the Allstate Insurance Newmarket Minor Atom team!!  What an exciting and dramatic finish to an amazing weekend for all the players and parents!  Congratulations to all the players and the coaches, Mike Brien, Chris Faulds and Craig Arsenault!
