Last Friday night, the U18 AA Renegades held a bake sale and sold pucks for "chuck-a-puck" game at Ray Twinney Recreation Centre during their game against the Markham Waxers. The donations helped raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Foundation on behalf of NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer charities.
The HFC foundation is in its 27th year raising funds that go towards national research programs, cancer institutions, children's hospitals and local charities across North America. This year, the players and parents collected $3750 during the night, smashing last year's total. The night was supported by the generous sponsors, the Newmarket locations of Moores Clothing for Men, Best Buy, Canadian Tire, Sports Chek, Play It Again Sports, Wraps and Co and Signarama.
Unfortunately, the U18 AA hockey team wasn't as successful on the ice, losing 4-2 to their division rivals. Overall the evening was a great accomplishment, raising funds and awareness for cancer research.
