Pond Hockey
Submitted By Murray Taylor on Wed 09 10, 14
Newmarket Minor Hockey, Town of Newmarket and Silver Stick have partnered to offer a new program called “Pond Hockey”, and embraces the concepts of less structure, fun and family involvement.

Simply defined, it’s “Street Hockey” on ice, kids having fun with minimum adult intervention. The program was developed by Hockey Alberta and has seen tremendous success since being introduced in 2003/2004 season.

This new program is not intended to replace the competitive and recreational programs already offered by Minor Hockey Associations.

Pond Hockey is another opportunity for youth to play the great game whether it’s for the first time or, simply for fun and, at a lower cost.    Half the time will be spent with instruction on the basics such as skating.   The 2nd half will be playing the game, no time clocks, no scoreboard, just for fun.

The program will be and run by Minor Hockey but administered by Town of Newmarket Parks and Recreation.

For registration information, go to

https://play.newmarket.ca/Activities/ActivitiesAdvSearch.asp   click on Children and then Sports.

Cost for the program, 10 weeks, 1 hr. and 20 minutes, $95
