Updated NMHA Statement on March 26th Incident at Magna Centre
The Newmarket Minor Hockey Association (NMHA) would like to apologize for the incident that occurred on the night March 26 at Magna Arena.

The incident was distressing to the visiting team’s players, their families and to others who were in attendance. We express our sincerest apologies to them.

The NMHA strives to create an environment that is respectful of all individuals. Behavior that is offensive or racist is not condoned in any form. While we believe the incident was not racially motivated, it could be perceived that way, and as a result was inappropriate and at odds with the values of our association. Symbols can have many  meanings and we need to better educate ourselves on how they may be perceived and the negative impact they can have.

An investigation into the event was started immediately and this has been a learning experience for us all. The Association will enhance diversity training and implement protocols to ensure we work together to eradicate all forms of discrimination.

The Newmarket Minor Hockey Association will continue to work to create a positive and inclusive environment for all players regardless of their background or orientation.
