NEWMARKET SILVER STICK FINALS POSTPONED
Submitted By Chris Neale on Sun 01 02, 22
On December 31st, 2021 the GTHL paused their season through to January 12th, 2022. This affected 12 teams that were planning on attending the Silver Stick Finals here in Newmarket. While we can still operate the tournament under the current restrictions we have concluded that its not the prudent thing to do at this time and in the current environment.

However, we want to be clear, we are NOT CANCELLING THE TOURNAMENT, WE ARE POSTPONING IT.

We believe that the Town of Newmarket will have ice available over the March Break period and will be confirming that with them this week. Hopefully, it will also give us enough time to get through the current COVID wave we are all trying to navigate.

So what happens next?

1. REGISTRATION CHEQUES - We have deposited only a few of the registration cheques received thus far. Teams registered will be will be receiving an email indicating/asking:
- if we have deposited your cheque we will ask for an address to which we can send a refund
cheque to or you can have us hold funds until new tournament dates are confirmed and you
re-confirm your entry. Any team that is unable to attend on new dates will be issued a refund.
- if we have not deposited your cheque we will ask if you would like us to destroy your cheque
on file or if you would like us to hold your cheque until new tournament dates are confirmed
and you re-confirm your entry.
We will get his done as quickly as possible but please be patient and allow us some time to make this happen.

2. HOTELS - please have your parents individually contact their hotel and cancel their rooms NOW. Once we have confirmed new dates, we will let you know and you can re-book them. Once new tournament dates are confirmed we communicate with our hotel providers to make sure there is enough hotel space available.

3. RE-CONFIRMING YOUR ENTRY - Once new tournament dates are confirmed you will receive an email asking that you re-confirm your tournament entry by a specific date. This will allow us to adjust to any teams that may not be able to join us on our new dates. If you have already submitted your rosters you will not need to re-submit but you will need a new Travel Permit and new cheque (if we have refunded or destroyed your original cheque).

We have heard it so many times over the past two years.....'these are unprecedented times'. The decision to postpone this tournament was not an easy one and we are doing our absolute best to make this tournament happen. We know what it means to compete in the Silver Stick Tournament. The Silver Stick Finals are tough to qualify for and even tougher to win. But, if you are a part of team that does win, it is something players, coaches and families remember for life. Being a Silver Stick Champion is something very special and we will continue  to work hard to ensure your teams will have the opportunity to compete for the championship this season and in the safest environment possible.

We appreciate your understanding and support and wish you all a Happy New Year and the very best in 2022.
