Tyke IP (6 yr olds) program update
The NMHA will not be icing a Tyke IP team for 6 year olds this season.

There are several contributing factors that have resulted in this decision. The OMHA has decided that a Tyke team for 6 years olds cannot run under the Roster Select format. To run this as a true Tyke program similar to the Tyke ‘A’ program the NMHA runs for 7 year old players presents several challenges. The primary two being that It would greatly hamper our House League program by removing 17 players and very few (if any) Associations within the York Simcoe Minor Hockey League (of which the NMHA is part) are operating a team this season which would mean that our team would have to do extensive and considerable travelling to play games.

The NMHA will continue to move forward with our Roster Select Tyke ‘B’ team for 7 year olds as the OMHA allows for the format.

“There is no provision in OMHA Policy 2.3 – Programs Below Novice for Initiation Program, for six year old players to form a team for the purposes of exhibition games or tournaments. They must be Initiation Program – Minor Development to participate in games at six (6) years of age.”

We will continue to investigate other opportunities to further develop our group of 6 year old players.
