The NMHA is pleased to announce our 2018-2019 Rep Coaches, Revised Tryout Format and Continuation of the MD Classification!

2018-2019 Rep Coaches:

The NMHA would like to express their sincere thanks to the volunteer time provided by this year’s Coach Selection Committee Members.  With 27 Coaching positions to fill, they invested countless hours combing through applications, interviewing and gathering feedback from our parent surveys to make their selections from the 51 applicants who stepped forward.

The process has resulted in the selection of 1st time Coaches, Non-Parent Coaches, and returning Veterans who are 100% committed to building upon the successes of this past season, coupled with the ongoing development of players who demonstrate the athletic skill and compete, which is the foundation for our rep hockey program.

Positions still remain where successful candidates were not selected.  Please monitor the NMHA.ca website for opportunities to submit applications for the 2018-2019 season.

Thank you to all applicants, congratulations to all 2018-2019 coaches, and good luck to everyone next season.

Rep Hockey Tryouts: Monday April 23, 2018 to Sunday May 6, 2018

We are putting together the final details for the 2018-2019 Rep Hockey Team Tryouts and the format, schedule and policy will be posted very soon.  Tryouts will run from Monday April 23, 2018 to Sunday May 6, 2018.

The format will be similar to last year with the following improvements.

  • Tryouts will commence on Monday April 23 for Novice to Minor Midget with our Evaluation Skate.  Subsequently, each Age/Classification will then have 2 tryouts and an Exhibition Game against the Aurora Teams.

  • To accommodate exhibition games for all ages and classifications, unfortunately due to ice constraints, we have to forgo the goalie evaluation tryout. We are working with the Town of Newmarket to secure enough ice to host Goalie Only Tryouts next year for the 2019-2020 season.

  • There will be no Tyke MD tryouts due to the new Hockey Canada Rules.  Once we get further clarification from Hockey Canada, we will make an announcement regarding Tyke Programs.

  • Tryout Jerseys will replace our dated pinnies and will be provided to coach prior to the start of the evaluation skate.  They will be used in all tryouts and exhibition games for AA, A and AE/MD

  • Tryout Passport will be available when the tryout schedule is posted in the next few weeks.  To closer align with our fellow centres, and due to the extra costs required to host the exhibition games and the implementation of tryout Jerseys, passport cost has increase to $60.

  • The on ice portion of the first 3 tryouts for Novice to Peewee will be facilitated by Hill Academy Head Coach, Doug Orr, and a number of Hill Academy Varsity Players.  This will provide a consistent and professional approach for all drills at these age levels, allowing coaches to focus on player selection.

  • Similar to last year, we have a written policy for athletes wishing to play up a birth year for all NMHA members.  This policy does not include players coming to the NMHA as Non-Resident Players (NRPs).  Please refer to our “Rep Hockey Age Exemption Policy” in the documents section of our website at the link below: http://nmha.ca/Public/Documents/NMHA_Rep_Hockey_Age_Exemption_Policy_14MAR2017.pdf  Requests to play up a birth year must be submitted in writing to the NMHA at [email protected] no later than 3pm Friday April 6, 2018.  Please include player name and current age/classification.  NMHA will review each applicant and notify parents within 1 week.

Please keep checking our webpage for more information on the 2018-2019 team tryouts and good luck to all athletes.

MD Classification will continue from Minor Bantam to Midget

Given the success of the MD Classifications during the 2017-2018 Season, the program will continue for the 2018-2019 Season.  This year was a learning curve for the YSMHL and we are expecting improvements for the regular season and playoff format this coming year.

Athletes will be given the option to choose the traditional AA/A Body Checking route OR the MD Non-Body Checking route when purchasing your online tryout passport.  Players wishing to try out for the MD team DO NOT have to attend the AE/HL/New Player skate…they go straight to MD tryouts.
