Hello and welcome to the Newmarket Renegades U18 ‘A’ tryouts!
My name is Todd Eves and I am returning again as your U18A Head Coach. I will be looking to build upon our team culture and success from last season. I think all of us can say that last year was interesting, especially as we navigated Covid and the return to hockey. We firmly believe that the coming hockey season will be much better and closer to what everyone remembers.
I am looking for players that will be ready to compete at all times, will be coachable, ready to learn and personally value being a good teammate. We will have a well organized and comprehensive hockey program this year for our players. We will also have a conscious understanding of the balance needed with school, family, part-time work and hockey. Truly an important time in our young men lives.
We also understand that our 2006 players are entering their second last year of minor hockey, while our 2005 players are proudly in their final year.
The goal is to ensure that the season is as successful as possible, for all our players, with this in mind. I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink and wish each participant good luck throughout the tryout process this year.
A couple of important notes:
1. All participants must register for the NMHA ‘tryout passport’ prior to attending our first tryout.
2. All players are reminded to wear proper equipment per the OMHA rules. This includes, mouth guards, neck protection and goalie ‘dangles’. Players not wearing appropriate protection will be removed from the ice surface.
Tryout Information:
Tryout #1: Saturday September 24th - 8:00 PM - Ray Twinney Complex, #1 pad. This is the first “A” tryout. This tryout is for all players and goalies who were released from the AA tryout skates. Following this tryout, I will post the results within 4 hours.
Tryout #2: Sunday September 25th - 9:00 PM - Ray Twinney Complex, #1 pad. This is the second “A” tryout. This tryout is for all players and goalies who were invited back from tryout #1. Following this tryout, I will post the results within 4 hours. Shortly after posting the results from Tryout #2, I will notify the parents and the players who will be participating in the exhibition game via email.
Tryout #3 - Exhibition Game > Wednesday September 28th - 8:00 PM - Aurora Community Centre, Ford Arena. This is the final “A” tryout and will be in the form of an exhibition game versus Aurora. Following the exhibition game, the “A” team will be selected and I will post the final selection within 2 hours. All successful players and parents will be invited to our first team meeting on Thursday September 29th at 8:30 PM for players to sign their ‘Commitment Letter’ and receive important team updates. As well, players will pick their jersey numbers at this meeting and verify their game jersey & socks sizing.
Important Dates
*The first full team practice will be Friday September 30th at 9:00pm (60 minutes), the second full practice is Sunday October 2nd at 8:30pm (90 minutes)
**We have two exhibition games versus the Orangeville Flyers - Game #1 in Newmarket (Magna - Forhan) Tuesday October 4th at 9pm; then Game #2 in Orangeville (Alder Arena) Thursday October 6th at 9:15pm
