Last night the Minor Peewee AE team took part in individual Concussion Baseline Testing with Upper Canada Sports Medicine (UCSM).
A baseline study is done
before
an athlete sustains a concussion and is used to measure brain activity. An
Athletic Therapist like
UCSM can compare
baseline brain activity to post-concussion activity on the same regions of the
brain to properly assess and treat an athlete.
Knowing firsthand how difficult it can be to recognize and treat a concussion, we as a team felt it was important to complete this testing. Attached to this post is a simple brochure from the Ontario Athletic Therapist Association (OATA) that outlines the following:
· What is a Concussion?
· Recognition and Awareness
· Room to Move
· Causes
· Symptoms
· Treatment
· Baseline Studies
· Concussion Facts
