TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS !
Redmen Minor Atom AE knocked off the undefeated Caledon Hawks to take the Championship Final at the Markham Waxers Early Bird tournament.

After placing 3rd in the round robin the Minor Atom AE team had their work cut out for them Sunday morning.  An early morning battle against rival Georgina proved to be the most nerve racking game experienced so far.  Tied at 1 at the end of regulation time and again after 5 minutes of overtime, the boys headed into the shootout for the first time in their careers.  Goals by Caiden Gibbons and Owen Risbridger in the shootout gave the Redmen the win and a place in the final against the undefeated Caledon Hawks team.

The final was once again a very tight game with lots of back and forth. Mid way through the second Pyrs Klein was on the doorstep once again to grab a rebound and put rubber to mesh and give the Redmen the lead. Caledon followed quickly to tie the score.  In the third Caiden Gibbons got around the defense and went in alone sniping a shot off the inside of the near post and around the mesh to give the Redmen back the lead.  Once again the Hawks fought back to tie the game at 2.  With less then 3 minutes remaining Reid Edl fought his way through the defense and sent the puck through the legs of the Hawks goaltender to give the Redmen the lead for the third time.  The team pulled together and battled a man down for the last 2 minutes to preserve the lead and take the championship home to Newmarket!

To see this team pull together and give it their all on every single shift was truly amazing.  This was clearly a team effort and so here they all are, your 2017 Markham Waxers Early Bird Tournament Minor Atom AE Champions:

Outstanding Goaltending by Tyler Nowicki and Luka Lombardi

Battle hardened defense by Joshua Tranter, Ethan Farrar, Aidan Dimma, Owen Risbridger, Luke Bujko and  Rowan Cull

Attacking offense by Kieran Burton, Christian "Boog" Ayre, Tredan Harper, Gavin "Tenacious G" Smith, Carter Spitzig, Caiden Gibbons, Matthew Zak, Reid Edl and Pyrs Klein.
