Congratulations to the Minor Peewee "A" team on a great accomplishment this past weekend. Against some very tough competition, the team was able to reach the finals of the Silver Stick International Finals tournament where they put up a valiant effort but ultimately came a goal short, losing a tight one 3-2 to the Cambridge Hawks.
Coming into the tournament, the Redmen were certainly underdogs given the competition level - but the entire team turned up their game for the tournament and were able to work their way into the semi-final game against the heavily favoured Brantford 99er's. Brantford had gone through the round robin undefeated and were the top seed - however, a gritty Newmarket Redmen team were able to match them physically, and behind the strength of a shorthanded goal and empty netter prevailed 2-1 to reach the finals.
Despite the loss in the finals, this was a major accomplishment for the team and they all should be very proud of what they achieved.
A thank you as always goes out to the coaches and parents who cheered them on, and a special thank you to all the Newmarket Redmen teams, coaches and parents that came out to support the team at both the semi-final game and the finals - the support was greatly appreciated!
Go Redmen Go!
