Jon grew up in the Ottawa Valley area, where he played minor hockey at the ‘AA’ and ‘AAA’ levels. One of Jon’s most memorable moments in minor hockey was winning the Midget ‘AA’ Championship with the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings, followed by being drafted by the Hawkesbury Hawks in the CCHL. His final year of playing was with the Jr. B Lions and Jr. A Grads.

In 2003, Jon moved to Newmarket and continued coaching as a non-parent assistant coach in the NMHA and won an OMHA championship in 2004-2005 with the U15 team. In 2021-2022, he was the assistant coach to the U11 team winning the York Simcoe Championship. Finally, Jon coached the U12 team in 2022-2023 who competed for the OMHA championships but fell short in the semi-final.

Jon is a D1 certified coach whose coaching philosophy focuses on developing excellent work ethic in his players both on and off the ice. He takes pride in helping each player develop and improve their fundamental hockey skills. Jon sees his coaching role as providing mentorship to his players so they can not only become better hockey players but also better people. Lastly, Jon believes that developing a positive team culture with both players and the families who support them, is essential to a successful season.
