In the true
spirit of the holiday season, the Atom AA team took some time as they do each
year to remember how lucky they truly are and give back to those in need. This year, they chose a charity with global
impact.
The players and moms (no coaches or dads allowed!) took an afternoon in the NMHA boardroom at the Magna Centre to fill shoeboxes with thoughtful gifts for children in need overseas. Each family graciously donated items and the boxes were filled with donations including hygiene items, school supplies, toys and games. Each family also donated the funds required to ship the boxes overseas.
Since 1990, Operation Christmas Child has collected and distributed over 135 million shoebox gifts worldwide. In 2016, Canadians donated 664,525 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for hurting children around the world.
During the holidays and any time of the year, it’s important to take stock, do a priority re-set and be truly thankful for what we have and what we all have to offer to those in need. The Atom AA families are proud to get involved and give back.
