Who's ready to play some hockey?!?
To kickstart the season, all registered Novice hockey players are required to attend a skills assessment on either September 20th or 21st.
The skills assessment is a series of on ice drills to which the coaches will assess and grade each child. Here are some of the things to being graded...
- Skating both forward & backwards
- Stopping (left and right)
- Turning (left & right)
- Puck Handling
- Passing
- Shooting
- Hockey/Scrimmage sense
One thing to note is that this is not meant to be a stressful situation for the kids, it's more to get an idea of their skill level so we can make all the teams balanced. It's important to just tell them to go out and have fun (and of course listen to what the on ice coaches tell them to do)!!
