Newmarket Win Pickering Midget Madness AA
The Midget AA team
finally got the proverbial monkey off their back this weekend by winning the
Pickering Midget Madness Tournament. In their previous two tournaments this
team made the Finals and came up short, but the team was determined to make
this weekend different.
The first difference – unlike in the previous tournaments where they completed the Round Robin stage 4-0, this weekend they had a bit of a struggle but still managed a 2-1-1 record which was good enough for fourth spot and an invitation to the Semi-final in this 12-team tournament.
The Redmen took full advantage of the opportunity, defeating a very skilled team from Humber Valley 4-3, allowing them to once again advance to another tournament final.
The Redmen now faced the Scarborough Bruins in the finals. The Bruins managed to hand the Redmen their first, Round Robin loss of the season. It was a well played game by both sides. But the final difference in this weekend was clear. The Redmen had absolutely no appetite for another silver. They prevailed in the 4th, yes the 4th overtime period with an exciting 2-1 victory.
